Thousand years ago, our nation, a newly formed country, had to fight continuously against the Northern invaders coming through the sea. Discontentedly, the Jade Emperor, who ruled over the heaven world, had sent the Mother Dragon and her children to help us.
When our main land was under great attack, suddenly, the Mother Dragon and her children appeared from above the sky and incinerated the enemies with their divine fire and giant emeralds. The emeralds from the Dragon’s mouth scattered around the marine battlefield and become a massive inviolate wall. As a result, most battleship fleets of the enemy were sunk, leading the survivors to immediately run away. Finally, our country was at peace.

At the end, the Mother Dragon and her children decided to stay in the mortal world to protect our national sovereignty. Afterwards, the wall of emerald turned into beautiful island and islets coming in different sizes and shapes as can be seen of Halong Bay nowadays.

The battle area is called “Halong” to memorize the event and the beach where the Dragon children descending is titled “Bai Tu Long” (thanks to the Dragon’s children). This legend also represents a belief that the Vietnamese people own Dragon bloodline.
